Stuart Plate Mania — Pigeon Lake
Stuartplate.ca takes a closer look at the 2010 Stuart Plate Elite 14.
Pigeon Lake, Omemee, ON
August 6 – 8 2010
Pigeon Lake will be a fitting playing field for the Stuart Plate Mania on Saturday August 7 2010.
Pigeon Lake is the Largest Lake of the three tournaments this year. It has 8000 acre of shoreline to be fished. The deepest point is 48 feet with a mean depth of 10 feet. Pigeon Lake is 27 km long. The north end of the lake is sandy with rock and weed. Big island dominates this part of the lake. Pigeon Lake is very shallow in the south end with a muddy bottom and the shoreline is lined with dense bulrushes. Docks will hold a winning weight, but may be difficult to fish if the water levels are low. Laydown timber and other shallow water cover make flipping soft plastics, topwater and shallow crankbaits all potential patterns.
Impressive weight came in 2009 with 4 of the 6 teams weighting in over 12 lbs of fish. Flipping the reed islands and pounding the slop seemed to be the key to success here in 2009.Once again the Small’s dominated here on there home lake. Mike Small Sr. placed 3rd with 12.4 lbs and Mike Small Jr. with his partner Jeff Stephenson came in first place with 15.9 lbs. Small and Stephenson broke the Stuart Plate weight record with a 15.9 lb bag. We also had the lunker walleye record broken by Mike Johnston breaking his own record with a 5.15 lb walleye.
Stuart Plate anglers to watch for……
The Small’s Sr. and Jr. – They have won 4 of the last 6 tournaments here
Jeff Stephenson – he has won 4 of the last 7 Stuart Plate Mania events
Chris Kaziovski – He had placed 2nd in the past two years with his team
Rob Maclean – Rob had a strong tournament here in 2009 by placing 2nd as well
This should be a exciting event! Let’s get ready to fish!
